de los Lipanes
Cementerio del Barrio de los Lipanes (Cemetery of the Lipan Neighborhood) is a sacred burial site for the Lipan Apache Tribe in Texas. I was a consultant on this project, working with the Big Bend Conservation Alliance and Dr. Nakaya Flotte to develop interpretive text panels for the site.
The Big Bend Conservation Alliance collaborated with the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas and family descendants to secure a historical marker and facilitate the transfer of this site—previously owned by the City of Presidio and Presidio County—back to the Lipan Apache Tribe. The team then partnered with MASS Design to protect the burial mound from erosion, establish an area for contemplation, and educate local residents and visitors about the Indigenous history of the region.
