Art21 Magazine

As part of Art21’s array of programming designed to illuminate the creative process, the Art21 Magazine provided a space for insightful writing on contemporary art and artists.

The Art21 Magazine was founded in 2013, emerging from the Art21 Blog that was established in 2007. As the first editor, I worked with Trasaterra to redesign the website, which at the time had over 3,000 blog posts. This redesign marked a shift from a guest blogging program to bimonthly thematic issues. The magazine contained contributions from a team of 30 freelance writers and columnists, who covered a variety of contemporary art topics. Additionally, the magazine provided resources for art educators and information on Art21 films and programs.

Each issue’s articles and essays were carefully selected to connect to both the theme and broader conversations happening in the art world. The redesign coincided with a partnership with the International Association of Art Critics-USA and CUE Art Foundation to create an online residency for emerging arts writers.
